During the late 1980s the Connoisseur of Malvern studio created a small series of open-edition Christmas tree ornaments for the USA market only. Because they were not sold in the UK or Europe, they are rare and difficult to find. In fact, to date I have found a photograph of only one of them.
This was the ornament produced for 1989. It shows an American bird, the Black Capped Chickadee, flying across a holiday wreath trimmed with a red bow and a banner showing the year. It is 3.5″ (8.9cm) high and 2.75″ (7cm) wide.
The Brielle Galleries retail catalog that year shows as being “first in an annual series” and selling for $175.
The series continued for only a few years; the exact term is yet to be determined. At least one other ornament was produced, which shows a dove. Nonetheless I will continue to try to locate information and photographs of the other ornaments in this series.
If any reader happens to have any of these ornaments and is willing to share photos, it would be much appreciated! There is a direct-contact form at the bottom of the About the Archive page.
